Reporting to the Executive Director, the Personal Support Workers (PSW) and Registered Nurses RN, RPN provide personal care and perform a wide range of tasks that are within their knowledge and skill set and are dependent on a client’s needs and contribute to their overall well being. Successful candidates must adhere to regulatory and Helpful Hands’ standards, policies and procedures.

Among others, typical duties may include:

• Demonstrating an understanding of client needs
• Shopping for food and household supplies
• Dietary planning and preparing and serving meals
• Feed and/or assist in feeding
• Performing housekeeping and cleaning
• Laundering clothing and household linens
• Assisting with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene
• Assisting with range of motion exercises, and other rehabilitative measures
• Assisting in maintaining a safe and clean environment, including residents/clients equipment , belongings, and nursing equipment
• Caring for pets including feeding, walking, cleaning up after them etc.
• Providing companionship as well as cognitive emotional, and psychological support to the client
• Administering bedside personal care
• Collect specimens for required medical tests
• Observing and reporting clinical and treatment information, behavioral changes
• Taking and recording blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, bodyweight and height
• Assisting with ambulation, mobilization, transferring and adaptive aids.
• Maintaining client information confidentiality

Required Skills and Qualifications

• PSW certification from a recognized educational institution or Nursing background
• Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties
• Exceptional interpersonal and customer focus skills
• Strong verbal and written English language skills
• Superb organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of the team
• Must be energetic, compassionate and patient.
• Must be able to meet physical demand requirements of the role
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification required
• Vulnerable Persons Police Check completed within past year (bondable)
